Sunday school vision…

January 27, 2009

It was great to have such a large number of you guys helping with the vision of the class. Sorry we ran out of time to finish our discussion. Perhaps we can finish our thoughts on here…

Summary: After Sunday school, if there was any question if we need another class, there is no more.  We had 37 people total, and 12 visitors praise God (and another 10 regulars out of town or with sick children).  Now we need to find the most effective way to do it.  It was suggested that the teacher for the other class be an older couple.  I think that’s a great idea.  The ss time will be 10:15 a.m., same as ours.  We will actually begin a young married ministry where we meet all together initially, then divide for bible study.

New Idea: There was a concern that if the division was done on a hard solid line by years married, the newer people to the class may feel distanced from the people who have been in the class a long time.  I had an idea, feel free to comment…

Instead of calling the classes ‘newly wed’ and ‘young married’, we will have two ‘copies’ of the way we do our class, with a new teacher for the other class.  On the church ss list visitors see, there will be no difference in the two classes, and everyone would be free to attend either. But… because of the large age difference emerging in the class (21-32 that I know of…)  we will unofficially ask the more established couples who are older age/longer married (24+/3+) to be committed to one class and the more established couples who are younger age/shorter married (26-,4-) to be committed to the other class.   Deciding which class you feel connected to will be up to you.  If someone wants to be in the other class, no big deal at all.   That way no one will feel pressured to attend one or the other, but I suspect new couples will probably gravitate to the class where they feel more comfortable.  If even most of the people would be willing to do this to help our ministry, the numbers should balance out to be fairly equal.   It will actually work out that the majority of our established ss couples will actually fall into the younger class, as it was commented that many of our new visitor couples have been married a longer amount of time.  Suprisingly it seems the ‘newer’ class will be the class for the longer married couples.

What we need:  We now enter the phase of making this happen.  We need you guys to be praying God will send us a Godly couple who has a passion for people our age.  If you know of a couple that may be interested, please let me know.  I will be talking to Roger and getting in touch with a couple he knows who has a heart for our ministry.  We will be having dinner with them.  If you would like to attend dinner with us and the potential couples, let me know.  We also need leaders for this new class.  If you and your spouse would be willing to co-teach with this new couple, or be apart of leadership for this new class, let me know.  For this to happen effectively, we need leaders to raise up.

My prayer:  I pray God gets the glory for the growth we have seen.  I pray that leaders are raised up. I pray that once we begin the new class, we would be effective in reaching out to the many young couples coming to our services that are not currently plugged into a ss class.  Lastly I pray that God continue to give us the wisdom to minister effectively.

Feel free to comment to this post for all to read.  If you have a private comment or concern, call me at 920.5599 or email me at hensond@midlandstech.edu

Love you guys,

Devin

I think that this sounds like a great solution to a great problem! We are all for it! Thanks for working so hard to find a diplomatic and Godly solution!

I think the division you’ve suggested is the best solution and the first that we’ve felt comfortable with. We’re on board and looking forward to meeting the mysterious, brave new couple…whoever they may be. Now, let’s just hope our current room can hold the bulging crowd until we divide.

Praise God for growth…that’s why we’re here.

This sounds like it has a lot of prayer and thought behind it. I’m still a little confused about who is going where with which teacher, but it’s okay…it will all pan out. It would be AWESOME if Roger Acton and his wife could do the other class.

p.s. I was shocked to hear we weren’t the youngest in the class :0)

This sounds great! Thanks Devin for taking the time to hash all of this out! I am so excited to know that God’s hand is working in our class!
